Twenty one years after its first edition, the 5th International Symposium Charnley Evolution, pin points a new evolution.

Organised for the first time in Paris, the symposium will take place at the CNIT - La Défense from December 3 to 5, 2009, reinforcing the partnership between the associations ACORA LYON and COCHIN PARIS.

In 2004, around 400 participants (Orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists and anaesthetists…) attended the Symposium in Lyon. Over 500 participants are expected in Paris in 2009.

The main theme of this Symposium will be: “Trends and future of Total Hip Arthroplasty”

The following issues will be discussed:

  • Long-term results
  • Bearings evaluation
  • Navigation
  • Approach
  • Revision arthroplasty
  • Double mobility socket
  • Results analysis of cemented and non-cemented arthroplasty through the experience of the implants known for more than 15 years (ABG, Corail, Zweymüller…).

Other economical, scientific and political aspects will also be treated on the occasion of the Symposium:

  • THA's patients care before and after the intervention
  • Critics of implants evaluation
  • Professional practices evaluation
  • Navigation cost
  • Consequences of the market regulations

Thus, as in 2004, organisers wish to demonstrate that from "Gold Standard" which constitutes Charnley’s arthroplasty, the orthopaedic reflection evolves towards the technological innovations and furthermore around the place of the THA in the society.
